Reception (age 5 to 6)
We warmly welcome you and your child to our Reception class.
We are excited to share our passion for children’s development as we set out to explore, discover and learn together.
BAPS Reception is an exciting class rich in relationships and learning. Teachers work closely in a team to provide a comprehensive academic and social/emotional learning program where children are at the centre of everything we do.
Children learn through a stimulating, inquiry-based curriculum with a balance of discovery, play and structured work times. Literacy and mathematical skills are developed within a supportive, enjoyable framework. Other curriculum areas are embedded in the programme. Although our Reception class sees the beginning of a more formalised learning programme as the children move from the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum into KS1 we firmly believe that play and playful learning are the natural and most effective learning style for young children. Our project and inquiry learning approach that develops the children’s abilities to question, hypothesize, research and utilize their literacy and numeracy skills is at the heart of our learning program.
We understand the diverse needs of young children and their families, and we know how vital the partnership between parents and school is in providing the best possible care for your child. We hope that you will always feel welcome to join us in class to share in your child’s development, and to talk about your child’s learning journey. We feel strongly that communication between school and home is essential in maintaining our partnership, and in ensuring personalised learning opportunities for your child.
The curriculum detailed below is subject to change as new developments and initiatives arise. Furthermore, it serves as a guide to what will be taught throughout the year and takes into account the varying abilities of each child. The Key Stage One curriculum caters for children from ages 5 to 7.
