Make a Difference

Make a Difference BAPSMake a Difference Onlus is a non-profit association founded in 2008 by Mrs. Deborah Chilver with the aim of supporting the education of unprivileged children living on the Eastern Coast of Kenya. MaD draws inspiration from the Nobel Prize Nelson Mandela’s words (1993): “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.

Our Actions

MaD promotes three projects that provides education to less fortunate children:

  • The Learning Hub
  • Teacher training exchange project and volunteering programs
  • Sponsorship of an orphans’ education

The Learning Hub

The school was founded in 2015 by Mrs. Deborah Chilver and is financed by private donations. It ensures educational excellence to children aged 3-9 and offers a full-immersion English program to the youngest children of the Imani Children’s Home. The School currently hosts around 60 children attending the Pre-School and the Primary School up to Year 3.

At the Learning Hub the program follows the guidelines of the British Curriculum Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1-2,integrated with the Kenyan Ministerial Program. The school has a Library which hosts an ever-expanding book collection and state-of-the-art technological instruments (about 20 devices between iPads and computers). The children’s progress and achievements are constantly monitored by Mrs. Chilver, who on a regular basis visits the Learning Hub to meet both, the children and teachers.

Cultural Exchanges and Volunteering Programs

Make a Difference Onlus promotes an exchange program between The British American Pre-School and the Bilingual European School teachers who will be provided with the unique opportunity to broaden their horizons and experience different learning environments.

MaD also provides Italian students with the opportunity to experience voluntary programs that will make a difference in their lives.

Child Sponsoring

At present, a group of generous Italian families and companies are sponsoring the education of around 100 underpriviledged children, 40 of which are hosted at the Imani’s Children Home. Our Association supports education to bring hope and change to orphan children living in extreme poverty. Since 2008, Make a Difference Onlus has sponsoried over 500 children.
